And let us not forget 13.0.7.8.18 by the Mayan Long Count
In 1880, Seven people were killed in a gunfight near Mussel Slough, in California's central valley. This originated in a land dispute between some settlers and the Southern Pacific Railroad. The shoot out occurred about 6 miles from the current location of Hanford, which is about 20 miles West of Visalia, aka East Nowhere, and 10 miles East of the Leemore Naval Air Station**..Of course, Hanford wasn't incorporated until 11 years after the shoot out, and Leemore NAS was built in 1961 or so. So why should anybody care about this gunfight at the nowhere corral? It was the inspiration for Frank Norris' novel, The Octopus: A Story of California, a couple of other novels and a lot of muckracking journalism
** The Navy likes to now and then dump these Naval Air Bases inland, well away from any navigable bodies of water. If anybody besides Az wants a Giggle, they can fire up their favorite search engine and look for the China Lake Naval Air Station.
