Ok, I don't see anythng about a place for dumping trash, garbage, waste, pollution, scrap, excess production, toxic chemicals, or anything like that. Just sayin'.

The environment is the source of all of an organism's inputs and the recipient of all of its outputs, whether it be a protozoan living in your gut or a more complex entity like, say, Manhattan. On that note:

We are all, in fact, in a hostile work environment, once you realize that survival is a job.. All of us meaing all beings.

-

Environment: noun - final resting place of plastic, hazmat and radwaste. Per the great Mephistopeles, “Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it., yeah, and it gets hotter every damn day.

-

Goldfish, of course, seem to generlly be capable of surviving conditions that would kill most tropical fish, but they will still turn belly up if subjectd to sufficient environmental degradation..

So what's my point? Do something! You, we, us,everybody. Do what? Really, asking that question draws forth an automatic "do some freaking reasearch, analysis and introspection." There are huge numbers of of environmental stressors of a great variety of types. Each of us, almost every day to at least some minute degree adds to the problem, often to multiple problems either separtately or at the same time. There are a plkethora of organizations and information sources advocating a variety of actions and/or inactions that would be ameliorative of some part of some problem. None of us engage in all of them, not even all of the easy ones. None of us is aware of all of them, but if you think and analyze yur daily minute to minute actions, habits and behaviors you will spot things you could do (or refrain from doing) to help without too greatly impacting your life. There are, for example, a lot of ways to reduce one's use of plastic wrap that most of us never think of. Could you find a way to eliminate one automobile trip per week? Do you use all of both sides of a piece of paper and then recycle it?

-

My sanitation department has a goal for several yers down the road of Zero Waste. I started thinking about that seemingly preposterous idea, and about my life and daily routines. I'm pretty good, but I could do way more, so how do I do that, and it came to me that a lot of it is being conscious of all of the little reflexive things that one does and doesn't do that lead to waste, non-compostable, non-recyclable trash, pollution and contamination. It is that constant awareness that's missing from our modern way of life, which is instead based on consumption and discarding the mountains of packaging as well as the old, tired, out of fashion, obsolete and the like.

Want an easy one? Quit using and buying single use plastic bags and bottles entirely, 100%. Do you carry your re-usable bags shopping but use the store's plastic bags for produce? Carry your own for that too, re-using theirs from last time or getting a set of washable string bags for that purpose..

Want a big one? Kill your Lawn! The number of ways in which lawns degrade the environment is huge. Tear it out and replace it with climatologically appropriate native plants, permeable pathways and water collectng and filtering swales and contours. Aim for zero artificial fertilizers, zero herbicides, zero perticides, zero runoff and zero irrigation. The latter is the hardest, but capturing all rain and rooftop runoff will help grealy. Select plants that feed and shelter pollinators, etc.

-

Intermediate? Make your own bread, rolls, pizza crust, etc. Preferably sourdough.

-

The main thing is to think, be engaged with the problems and issues and always on the lookout for things you personally can do. Make it a form of mindfulness, be mindful of how your every actin or inaction effects the environment and ponder how you can do better. After all, why not?

Its an open thread so have at it. The floor is yours .
