The Daily Bucket is a regular feature of the Backyard Science group.  It is a place to note any observations you have made of the world around you. Insects, weather, meteorites, climate, birds and/or flowers.  All are worthy additions to the bucket.  Please let us know what is going on around you in a comment.  Include, as close as is comfortable for you, where you are located. Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the patterns that are quietly unwinding around us.

Castro Valley, near Oakland, CA; approx 37.7N by 122W, 400 feet elevation.

This is part of my ongoing project to document the changes in our yard from month to month. December 2018 is here https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2018/12/30/1822353/-The-Daily-Bucket-December-2018-Yard-Report            - it will list all of the rest of 2018 + December 2017, etc. This month I am going somewhat by exception, only things that are blooming, significantly changed or otherwise of interest.

As of January 12, 2019 Looking south from backdoor, geraniums are blooming

pineapple sage just barely blooming

naranjas

oxalis has taken over the yard, as usual in winter
