It appears that the US is finally going to concede that only the Syrian government is entitled to decide what foreign powers and corporations do and do not run pipelines across its territory and cease aiding and abetting the various attempts at regime change because it turned down one of our client states. This is a good thing.
This is still a good thing regardless of the fact that the wrong president, a bad man, and all that is the one to end this illegal and immoral war. To paraphrase John Kerry —
How do you ask a man to be the last man to die in <s>Vietnam</s> Syria? How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?
Niether the political party of the President who made that mistake, nor the political party of the one ending it should concern us. If it is really finally over, that is a good thing.
